Ready for my newest ramblings?
Tuesday, I talked about what my blog used to be. I was very proud of it, it just got a little expensive for something it seemed like no one was reading anyway.
This time, I see very clearly what’s happening in our community and where it’s headed if nobody does anything to interfere. As part of that, this week, I’ll also be posting a third piece.
Looking to the past definitely has its place in certain situations, but part 2 of the intro to this revamped blog will focus on community what I hope to do here. As I said, I still plan to write the occasional piece on physical health for those of us who place importance on medical science and improving/nurturing our vessels. And, of course, I will continue to write about mental health. However, jumping off of the latter, this blog will mainly operate as more of a community blog.
I mentioned briefly how my little bit of research has led me to believe one of the biggest traumas we face as people in this country is the different marginalizations we created based on gender, sex, race, class, ability, etc. etc. We can speak out and practice things like decolonization, which are admirable practices to work on. For the most part, we still don’t have a whole lot of control over these systems that have been built up pretty much since the 16th century in the US.
Make no mistake, I will also write pieces on those practices as well. My ADHD knows no bounds!
One huge barrier to mental health and well-being these days is loneliness, and in my very “humble” opinion, that barrier is purposeful. Society is much easier to control when we feel like we have no other option but to rely on the institutions that have been overrun by concepts without the best interests of humanity in mind. I want to do my part to bring this community for the betterment of all of us.
You already know I’m going to write about the different ways community building will benefit all of us. I also plan to lend my voice to highlight community members with bi-monthly profiles to show we have so much in common and that not a single one of us is completely alone in this town.
Personally, I find the politics in Alamogordo to be exhausting, and nothing says I have to get directly involved to make a difference here. One overarching opinion I’ve held for a while now is that we can all play a crucial part in a community and no one has to do everything. Luckily for me, plenty of others have active political spaces that I can reference to where appropriate!
On top of that, there are a few organizations in town that are doing work to better our community, such as With Many Hands and Community Power NM, that I will highlight opportunities to help out.
In an effort to foster my values, I will also occasionally open up this blog for guest editorials, and community artwork ranging from drawings and paintings to poetry and short stories. Above all, the community deserves hope and joy in spite of everything going on in the world right now. Both are radical acts of resistance.
I will be posting to this blog most weeks every Tuesday and Thursday around noon mountain time (for the next three years, discouragement be damned!). This week I’ll also be posting over the weekend, hopefully Saturday. As great as an introduction to this space is, I have things I needed to address months ago, and it’s too timely for patience!
Until Saturday,
Salud
