Hello Alamo!
I’m sure many of you know that we have a chapter of the Rotary Club here.
According to their official website, most Rotarians must be invited to join their local club. They want to make sure membership is professional and committed to Rotary International’s values.
A more low-stakes position emerged around 1985: Rotary community corps.
As a member of the corps, community members can have a bit more of a direct say over what their needs are and how they can be best met through one-time or ongoing service projects.
There are reportedly over 12,000 Rotary community corps in 105 countries around the world, and the newest iteration is coming right here to Alamogordo.
Currently, they are looking for 10 interested community volunteers to join the corps.
If you wish to check out a meeting before making a commitment, they are every Wednesday at noon at Christus Health. If you’d like to know more about what this corps group is hoping to accomplish, the contact that came to me is Spencer Bond, easily found on Facebook and I imagine easily found in the community, especially if you happen to be on the NMSU-A campus.
I’m personally considering getting involved as another more accessible way to contribute to the well-being of my community, and I hope some of you will too.
Salud!
