Hello Alamo!
If you’ve been involved in community work in any capacity the past few years, you at least know of Jeanette Borunda. She has been a tireless force for the betterment of this community, recently introducing a mental health crisis team to the Alamogordo Police Department anong othgers.
She told me months ago that she was set to direct Sister Act, so I’ve been looking forward to this weekend for a while!
1. How long have you been involved in theatre here in Alamogordo?
I have been involved in theatre in Alamogordo since 2023.
2. Obviously the movie’s amazing. When did you first see/hear the musical version? And what made you want to bring it to our community?
First and foremost, Sister Act and Sister Act 2, are two of my favorite all time movies. I became aware of the musical a few years ago. Last year when the board was pitching musical shows for 2026 I knew I wanted to direct a musical, but didn’t know which one at the time. I started researching and whittled them down to my top 10. From there I let my heart speak to me and I couldn’t let go of Sister Act. I decided it was the one I HAD to direct. Sister Act not only brings heartfelt music, but also a sense of community. It shows us that every voice is important and the people we least expect to change us, do.
3. Please excuse my memory. Is this the first show you’ve directed for AMT? What was that experience like?
This is the first musical I have directed for AMT. I love seeing the creativity and life that people bring to the stage. There’s a moment when you are in a play where the magic happens and the emotions take over. Being on the other side and seeing the magic happen in front of you is a feeling like none other. I am so proud of our cast and I can’t wait to share this amazing show with our community.
Showtimes for Sister Act are a bit different, with 6 showings, 2 of which are matinees!
- Friday, July 31st @ 7pm
- Saturday, August 1st @ 7pm
- Sunday, August 2nd @ 2pm
- Friday, August 7th @ 7pm

And in the meantime, if you haven’t made it up to The Drip to try a Sister Act Frappe, you should!
Salud!
