Alamogordo Music Theatre poster

Hello Alamo!

As you all know, I’m a huge fan of music theatre. All art mediums really*.

I’ve covered Rebel Performing Arts and their ever-expanding mission to celebrate humanity, and don’t you worry, we’ll catch up with them again very shortly.

Speaking of, many members of Rebel love portraying human experience and beauty so much that they are also a huge part of Alamogordo Music Theatre. Their latest endeavor is Mean Girls, the stage production based on the movie we all love.

I would consider these theatre geeks my friends at this point, and I do love to gas up my friends anyway, but I would say there is some uniquely amazing talent in this group of entertainers. One such talent is Adrianna Sharpe, who will be portraying Regina George in this show. Enjoy!

1. How long have you been involved in theatre?

A: 1. I’ve been involved in theatre for about 8 years now, and I’ve been with AMT for around 6 of those years. Being part of AMT has taught me so much and has helped me grow not only as a performer, but as a person too

2. You and Bella (Ochoa) are 2 amazing young voices. I can’t imagine it is, but is Regina George one of the biggest roles you’ve taken on?

A: Bella is an incredibly gifted performer, and I really admire her. Playing Regina is definitely the biggest role I’ve taken on so far. She really pushes me to step outside of my comfort zone, but I’m excited for the challenge and confident I can do her justice.

3. What has it been like rehearsing for this performance?

Rehearsals have been a lot of fun. There are so many exciting dance numbers that really highlight how talented our cast is. It’s definitely a lot of work, but it’s been such a fun and rewarding experience.

4. I imagine you enjoy working with a lot of the same people. I do obviously know Bradley/Aaron, and your creative energy is fantastic together. What is it like bouncing off energy so closely with Dresden/Cady?

A: Dresden is amazing to work with. She has such a bubbly energy that really lights up the room, and she’s incredibly talented. She’s also super kind and always on top of things. Working with her feels really natural, and you can tell how passionate she is about the show.

I am not the only one in this community who’s a huge fan of music theatre.

For this production, the new locally-owned coffee shop on the hill The Drip collaborated with AMT and created a latte based on Mean Girls (quite tasty; you should stop by and try one if you haven’t already).

The co-owner Bonnie Lucero mentioned that this partnership especially interested her for a few reasons, at the top of her list that she loves pink and any reason to create a new drink!

On a more personal note, Lucero wears several hats in the community, and as a teacher and youth pastor, it’s hard to ignore the effect music in general has on the lives of young people.

“In each of those roles, I see how powerful music is. It helps people learn, brings comfort, and gives them a way to express themselves. That’s why I’m a supporter of all the shows AMT puts on, not just this one.” Art forms are so very important, especially in giving our younger generations, as viewers and performers like Sharpe, the confidence and permission to be their authentic selves.

When asked about the importance of local businesses supporting community arts, Lucero had this to say:

“It’s incredibly important for small businesses to support community efforts, especially when it involves the next generation. My husband Eric and I also lead a youth group of about 100 teens, so we understand how important it is for them to have positive outlets. Fine arts gives students a place to belong, grow in confidence, and discover their value and we’re honored to partner with that.”

I could not agree more.

The Drip Coffee House is located at 2724 Scenic Dr. and is open Monday-Friday from 6:30am-2:30pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 7:00am-3:00pm. You can also order online for pickup or delivery.
