Audience Reacts: Connie Breding

Hello Alamo! I apologize for the day-late post. I actually had plans yesterday!

As with the community gardens, I wanted to get a more complete story about Rebel by interviewing one of our community members. Now retired, Breding was the professor for 2 of my theatre classes at New Mexico State University-Alamogordo and directed me on- and backstage at Theatre on the Hill, and I was very interested to hear what she thought. Enjoy!

1. What first drew you to the theatre?

When I was a student at the University of North Dakota, I took a Theatre 101 class, and I found the information so fascinating that I declared theatre as one of my majors.

2. How long have you actively been involved in productions?

I have been involved in theatre for 50 years. I know, I am old, LOL.

3. As far as an artform for storytelling, do you think theatre has an advantage over others?

While I also like watching tv and going to films, theatre has the immediacy that they don’t, and that is what makes theatre so exciting for me. During a theatrical performance, the actors and crew workers and the audience are all in the same space at the same time! This immediacy is missing from both film and tv.

4. What was your experience viewing Broadway: No Rules? Are you looking forward to seeing what Rebel can accomplish in this community?

I have seen all of the shows that Rebel Theatre has performed, and I liked them all. I thought “No Rules” was a unique idea that gave their actors the chance to “mix up roles” and see what happens. Rebel Theatre brings a real energy to the performance, and I think that is something that everyone enjoys. I talked to people after “No Rules” and everyone I spoke to liked the show. I see where Rebel Theatre can fill a niche for Alamogordo folks who enjoy going to the theatre, and I predict they will continue to be successful.

Hopefully until Wednesday,

Salud!
